[Sports Seoul | Reporter Baek Seung-kwan] Jaeneung University is partnering with Incheon Chinatown to cultivate the next wave of global dining and hospitality talent. The initiative pairs local education infrastructure with the Chinese merchant network to train hands-on, food-tech-focused professionals while also stepping up efforts to recruit international students.

Jaeneung University (President Lee Nam-sik) announced on the 7th that it signed an industry-academia cooperation MOU with the Incheon Chinatown Chinese Merchants Association (Chairman Seo Hak-bo) in the 13th-floor conference hall of Jaeneung Hall on campus. The agreement links the university’s educational strengths with Chinatown — a signature tourist and commercial district in Incheon’s historic downtown — with the goal of revitalizing the local economy and boosting global competitiveness.

Under the MOU, the partners will pursue several collaborative efforts: jointly developing curricula for the Food-Tech Entrepreneurship Department and related majors; connecting domestic and international field internships to employment pathways; expanding recruitment of students from China and Taiwan; and creating academic pipelines with Incheon’s Chinese elementary, middle, and high schools. Above all, they plan to establish a practice-driven industry-academia model that combines on-the-ground vocational training with a global professional network, not just simple exchange programs.

A major emphasis is on merging traditional Chinese cuisine with food tech. The institutions discussed supporting second- and third-generation Chinese descendants in their educational advancement, while applying data-driven cooking techniques and food engineering to Chinatown’s classic Chinese dishes to systematize menus scientifically. They aim to run tailored programs for international students and working professionals and to launch dining-industry research and joint projects in collaboration with local governments.

Jaeneung University plans to deepen industry-aligned training centered on the Food-Tech Entrepreneurship Department and use the Chinese merchant network to broaden students’ domestic and international employment opportunities. At the same time, the university will work with Chinatown’s businesses on new menu development and brand enhancement to raise the dining sector’s local value.

President Lee Nam-sik said, “This partnership with Chinatown, Incheon’s emblematic cultural hub, will be a model for education-industry integration. By connecting with Chinese schools, we will attract talented international students and actively support hands-on experiences so students can grow into globally competitive professionals.”

Chairman Seo Hak-bo added, “Our collaboration with Jaeneung University will accelerate the digital transformation of Chinatown’s Chinese restaurant industry and expand global exchanges. I expect food-tech to be adopted on the ground and for Chinatown to emerge as a global center for dining culture.”

Meanwhile, Jaeneung University is scaling up joint research with local governments and regional specialty organizations, and accelerating the buildout of a sustainable industry-academia ecosystem through scholarships and development funds.
