[Herald Economy (Daegu) = Reporter Kim Byung-jin] Gunwi County in Daegu celebrated the opening of its 10th Gunwi Local Food direct store — the Daegu Station branch — at Daegu Station on the 3rd.
The ceremony was attended by County Governor Kim Jin-yeol, members of the Gunwi County Council, officials from the Daegu Metropolitan Transit Corporation, and local residents. Festivities included a ribbon-cutting and a sirutteok (steamed rice cake) performance to mark the launch.
The new Daegu Station branch sits at a key downtown hub where subway and rail passengers converge. As a strategic outpost, it’s designed to secure reliable sales channels for Gunwi-grown produce while widening consumer access.
By partnering with Daegu Metro to secure space inside the station, Gunwi County has built a sustainable consumption model that leverages steady foot traffic — a particularly meaningful achievement, officials say.
This initiative establishes a foundation to reliably supply agricultural goods produced by 22,000 Gunwi residents to the tables of roughly 2.35 million people in Daegu.
The store will spotlight items grown and made directly by local farmers, focusing on seasonal produce, fresh vegetables, and processed goods. Officials plan to expand the lineup to include livestock products, operating the outlet as a comprehensive local-food market.
“Daegu Station is the gateway to downtown Daegu and a place where daily life flows,” said a Gunwi County official. “We’ll bring Gunwi agricultural products closer to consumers and build a food system where producers and consumers thrive together.”
