Kim Seon-tae — the former “Chungju Man” who’s now freelancing — made a bold early move: chicken.
On March 21, the Korea Economic Daily reported that Kim has kicked off a major advertising push after teaming up with chicken franchise BBQ.
Industry insiders say he began shooting a promotional video on March 20 at Genesis BBQ’s headquarters in Munjeong-dong, Songpa District, Seoul. Filming later moved to the BBQ Chicken Village on Songridan-gil, a hybrid spot that pairs a brunch menu with chic interiors and deliberately positions itself away from the usual fried-chicken-shop vibe.

The outlet says this collaboration is less about pushing a single menu item and more about polishing the brand’s overall image. It looks like BBQ is betting on Kim’s frank, relatable personality to expand its reach.
Viewers are also curious whether Genesis BBQ chairman Yoon Hong-geun will make a cameo — similar to how Woori Bank president Jeong Jin-wan appeared in Kim’s earlier bank spot.
That previous promo made waves when Kim walked up to the bank president and bluntly asked, “How much is in the account?”
Reports say Kim has received collaboration proposals from roughly 1,000 companies so far, and everyone’s watching to see what he’ll do next.
