Zigzag, the style commerce platform operated by Kakao Style, announced on the 29th that sales of winter outerwear, including fur coats and military-style jackets, have surged by up to tenfold.
The company analyzed product big data from December of last year through the 25th of this month. The demand for fur-based outerwear has skyrocketed, with ‘fur coat’ sales increasing more than six times (568%) compared to the same period last year, while transaction amounts rose over nine times (850%).
‘Wool coat’ sales have exploded, increasing more than tenfold (976%) compared to last year. Sales of the similarly cozy ‘teddy coats’ also jumped by 103%.
‘Military-style jackets’ (46%) have also emerged as a major winter trend. Additionally, ‘shearling coat’ (20%) sales have increased. The steady rise in customer demand is attributed to the popularity of ‘reversible’ designs that can be worn on both sides.
As winter outerwear options diversify, sales of ‘long padded coats’ and the so-called ‘puffers’ or ‘short padded jackets’ have slightly slowed. This trend suggests that more customers are seeking products that express their individuality, moving beyond traditional designs and colors.
