Style commerce platform ‘Zigzag’ has reported a staggering surge in winter outerwear sales, with fur coats and field jackets flying off the virtual shelves at up to ten times their usual rate.

Zigzag’s big data analysis from last December through January 25th reveals a surprising twist in winter fashion trends. The reign of the ubiquitous puffer jacket, which has dominated street style for years, seems to be coming to an end. In its place, fur-based outerwear is taking center stage, with fur coat sales skyrocketing by over 568% and revenue soaring by a whopping 850%.
This winter’s fur game is stronger and more diverse than ever. From long, luxurious coats to plush, rounded textures, the fur options are endless. The real showstopper? Shearling coats. These cozy numbers have seen an explosive 976% increase in sales compared to last year. Not far behind are the equally snuggly ‘teddy coats,’ up by 103%, while fur jackets are also climbing the charts with a 69% boost.
Zigzag’s best-seller list is a testament to the fur frenzy. The ‘Bear Oversized Boucle Half Coat’ from ‘Onyu’ has been a runaway hit, with over 24,000 units sold, propelling the shop to new heights. Meanwhile, ‘Benito’s’ in-house creation, the ‘Anyb Airy Feminine High-Neck Fur Jacket,’ is winning hearts with its chic design and versatile length options.

In a nostalgic twist, the field jacket (up 46%) is making a major comeback, channeling serious Y2K vibes. The latest must-have? The ‘fishtail’ variation, sporting an extended back hem, which has seen a 73% spike in sales. Shearling jackets are also having a moment, with a 20% uptick. Their reversible designs are a hit with shoppers looking for versatility in their winter wardrobe.
As the outerwear landscape diversifies, the once-popular long puffers and cropped ‘puffers’ are taking a backseat. This shift reflects a broader trend in consumer behavior, with fashion-forward individuals prioritizing personal style over following the crowd. There’s a growing appetite for pieces that make a statement and showcase individuality.
Adding to this mix are clever layering pieces that boost warmth without bulk. From fleece-lined tights to chunky scarves and leg warmers, savvy shoppers are creating cozy, stylish looks that rival the warmth of heavy coats, all while expressing their unique style.
A spokesperson for Kakao Style noted, “This winter is all about breaking the mold. Gone are the days of dark, knee-length puffers dominating the scene. Now, it’s a playground of textures, lengths, and designs in outerwear.”
