[Sports Seoul | Reporter Ham Sang-beom] HYBE and Geffen Records’ global girl group KATSEYE cemented its international presence by delivering acclaimed sets on both weekends of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival (“Coachella”).
KATSEYE appeared on the Sahara Stage in Indio, California, on April 17 (local time), performing an approximately 45-minute set of 11 songs. As with their opening-weekend appearance on April 10, the roughly 60,000-capacity venue was packed with fans who had come specifically to see them.
Opening with their new single “PINKY UP,” the group moved through a string of hits — including “Internet Girl,” “Gabriela” and “Gnarly” — keeping the crowd singing and cheering throughout. They navigated Latin pop, hyperpop and pop ballads with ease, showcasing a wide musical range and strong vocal chops. The near-flawless staging underscored why KATSEYE is increasingly described as a next-generation pop icon.
The impact showed up online as well. Around their first-weekend Coachella appearances, the group’s follower count across major platforms (Instagram, TikTok, X and others) climbed by more than 580,000, pushing their total past 47.04 million. Coachella’s official YouTube and Instagram posted the live “PINKY UP” performance, calling it an “incredible performance.” As of April 18, that clip had surpassed 6.3 million views, eclipsing the roughly 5.9 million views on headliner Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso” stage video.
International outlets were similarly enthusiastic. Several major publications singled out the joint “GOLDEN” performance — staged with real members of the virtual K-pop group HUNTR/X — as one of Coachella’s standout moments, praising the harmony between the two acts. Billboard called KATSEYE’s set “bonkers,” while People lauded their “girl group greatness.”
KATSEYE is also making waves on the charts. “PINKY UP” reached No. 14 on the U.K. Official Singles Top 100 (April 17–23) and on the Weekly Top Song USA chart (April 10–16). It also placed No. 18 on Spotify’s Weekly Top Songs Global chart (April 10–16), a sign of broad international appeal.
After Coachella, KATSEYE will continue on the festival circuit, with scheduled appearances at Governors Ball in New York on June 5, the Hinterland Music Festival in St. Charles, Iowa, on July 30, and Head In The Clouds in Pasadena on August 8. intellybeast@sportsseoul.com
