BTS took home the top prize—Artist of the Year—at the American Music Awards (AMA), one of the three major U.S. popular-music ceremonies. Netflix’s animated series K-Pop Demon Hunters and its soundtrack also swept several key categories, underscoring the global influence of K-pop and Korean content.

On the 25th (local time), BTS won Artist of the Year at the ceremony held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. This is the group’s second Artist of the Year trophy, following their 2021 win for “Butter,” when they became the first Asian act to receive the honor. They prevailed over global stars including Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Bad Bunny and Bruno Mars.

By the end of the night, BTS had collected three awards: Artist of the Year, Song of the Summer and Best Male K-pop Artist. The wins came just two months after the March release of their fifth studio album, ARIRANG, and following a period during which members completed mandatory military service.

BTS opened the show with a performance video of “Hooligan,” a song from ARIRANG, filmed during the Las Vegas stop of their ARIRANG world tour.

Leader RM said, “ARMY did it again,” and added that he was grateful to accept such a precious award now that all members have completed their military service. Member Jimin bowed about 90 degrees and, speaking in Korean, thanked ARMY for their constant support and love.

That night, the soundtrack single “Golden” from Netflix’s K-Pop Demon Hunters earned Song of the Year, Best Vocal Performance and Best Pop Song, while the project itself won Best Soundtrack—four awards in total.

“Golden,” performed in the story by the fictional girl group Huntrix, was co-written by Korean-American artist Lee Jae; he and Ray Ami accepted the trophy onstage. The song has enjoyed global popularity alongside the series and has previously been recognized at major ceremonies, including the Grammys and the Golden Globes. Lee Jae said he drew great strength from the fans and the K-Pop Demon Hunters team.

HYBE’s Korea–U.S. joint girl group Cats Eye picked up three awards—New Artist, Breakthrough Pop Artist and Best Music Video. Korean member Yoonchae said in English that they will continue to express their culture with pride. The award for Best Female K-pop Artist went to TWICE.

The American Music Awards is considered one of the three major U.S. popular-music awards alongside the Grammy Awards and the Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs). Winners are selected by fan votes.
