[EPN Enpinow reporter Go Nari] Cyndi Lauper’s opening residency performance in Las Vegas drew attention after an unexpected encounter with an audience member.
On April 24 (local time), a spectator booed during the set, and Lauper reacted onstage, visibly displeased.
Lauper shot back, “What on earth are you doing, XX? Know where you are,” directing the comments at the fan.
She added, “If you’re trying to tear me down, I won’t let it slide,” and noted, “I’m from Brooklyn — I don’t keep quiet when I have something to say.”
Her blunt response prompted cheers and applause from the audience, lifting the room’s energy. Lauper followed with an even more electric performance.
Ahead of the show, she teased on social media, “We’ve got some surprises in store for this performance. Come see for yourself,” stoking anticipation.
Her Las Vegas engagement is scheduled to continue through May 2.
Lauper rose to prominence in the 1980s as a defining voice of pop, noted as much for her distinctive music as for her bold fashion. Critics have often compared her to Madonna and Janet Jackson, framing them as contemporaries and occasional rivals.
Although a planned 2015 concert in South Korea was canceled, she has remained active across projects, including composing songs for the musical Kinky Boots.
