By Kim Ha-young / MyDaily — What is it about Lucy’s concerts that pulls you in? The band recaptured a crisp spring energy with its first full-lineup show in a year and a half.
Lucy staged “2026 LUCY 9TH CONCERT ‘ISLAND'” at the KSPO DOME in Seoul Olympic Park on May 16 and 17. The 3-hour, 30-minute concert was their first complete-band performance since drummer Shin Gwang-il completed military service in March, a milestone that lent the event extra weight.
On stage, Lucy remained commanding. Shin Gwang-il’s lower-mid register paired seamlessly with Choi Sang-yeop’s sharp upper range. Violin lines floated over guitar and drums at times, creating passages that felt almost like a chamber-string interlude. The show confirmed that Lucy’s rising presence on the charts is no accident.
What stood out most was the band members’ careful attention to detail. Shin Gwang-il brought a wagon-style drum kit that could move around the stage, Shin Ye-chan performed on violin, and Choi Sang-yeop dusted off the acoustic guitar he used while busking. Shin quipped that the drum setup alone cost as much as a car, calling it “my real drum,” which drew laughs from the crowd.

Reunited after 18 months, the band displayed effortless chemistry. Their rock foundation—augmented by violin, electronic and acoustic guitars, and bass—shaped a sound that is unmistakably Lucy’s. On the substage, the members ran through the venue to get closer to fans, sustaining a high-energy buzz that kept the arena electric.
They opened with “발아” from last month’s second full-length album Chidish, then pushed straight into “개화” (Flowering) and “히어로” (Hero), building momentum from the first notes. Through numbers such as “Opening,” “빌런” (Villain), “놀이” (Play), “사랑은 어쩌고” (What About Love) and “동이 틀 때” (When Dawn Breaks), they preserved the band’s signature sense of freshness.

By midset, the room had heated up. A medley of hits—”아지랑이,” “전체관람가” (All-Ages), “아니 근데 진짜” (Wait, Seriously), and “21세기의 어떤 날” (A Day in the 21st Century)—triggered massive sing-alongs. Every time the crowd leapt, the floor reverberated. Lucy managed to convey both the intimacy of a band’s emotional core and the wide-open energy of a festival.
During “EIO,” “도깨비춤” (Goblin Dance), “맞네” (Right On) and “뚝딱” (Ttukttak), the performance leaned into spectacle. A violin solo fused with traditional mask-dance elements while musicians moved through the standing section, producing riveting moments that held the audience’s attention.
The solo segments were staged like a radio show. Shin Gwang-il turned DJ, introducing each member’s story before they played a song that matched the tale. Shin’s “구구절절,” Shin Ye-chan’s “Little Star,” Jo Won-sang’s “Porch Light,” and Choi Sang-yeop’s “Little Star” showcased their individual voices and styles.

Choi Sang-yeop said he felt they had finally reached what they’d been working toward. “Today we’ll show you why this concert could feel like a last one,” he said emotionally, then added with confidence that the band had poured everything into the show — ensuring fans would get both an auditory and visual thrill.
Near the end, Choi reflected on Lucy’s first concert. He recalled that at Blue Square they hadn’t had many originals, so they filled the set with covers, a Christmas medley and material from ‘Superband.’ “Our current feelings are beyond imagination,” he said, thanking fans for making it possible to play in ever-larger venues.
What began in small clubs has grown into a band that now fills the KSPO DOME. Over those 210 minutes, the audience was reminded—viscerally—why Lucy’s shows draw such devotion.
