[Sports Today reporter Song O-jung] — Trot singer Lee Sona opened up about the struggles she endured while still unknown.
On the episode broadcast May 3 of TV Chosun’s Heo Young-man’s Baekban Journey, Lee Sona and Heo Chan-mi visited Chuncheon.
When asked if she was unknown before winning “Miss Trot 4,” Lee Sona replied, “No one ever recognized me wherever I went.”

She recalled one occasion when artists were putting on a show just for performers. They offered her guest tickets and asked how many fans would attend. “I told them I didn’t need the tickets because no one would come,” she admitted.
Before turning to trot, Lee Sona spent 20 years studying gugak — traditional Korean music — as a standout student. As an adult, she became captivated by trot and wrestled with her career direction. “Over four or five years my interest in trot grew, so I decided to audition. Now I work as a trot singer,” she said.
