5 Key Highlights from Wonpil’s ‘Unfiltered’ Concert: What Makes His Solo Debut Stand Out?

[TV Daily reporter Kim Jin-seok] Wonpil of Day6 laid himself bare at his solo concert \”Unpiltered,\” showing fans everything from his band persona to his work as a solo artist.

On May 3, Wonpil staged his solo concert \”Unpiltered\” at the Jamsil Indoor Gymnasium in Seoul’s Songpa district. The run marked his first solo shows since the March 2022 concert \”Filmography,\” coming roughly four years and two months later, and pre-sale tickets for every performance sold out. He performed three shows from May 1 through May 3.

Wonpil returned as a solo artist on March 30 with his first mini album in about four years, titled \”Unpiltered.\” For this concert, he focused on presenting every track from that album live. The title sums up the concept: showing Wonpil without filters — not polished or refined, but as he really is.

He opened the concert with the mini-album tracks \”Toxic Love\” and \”I Became an Adult.\” Greeting the crowd, he said, \”I’m back for my second solo concert,\” then admitted, \”It’s bittersweet that we have to send ‘Unpiltered’ off today.\” On the concert’s title, he added, \”This show is about showing myself as I really am. You might see a new side of me tonight. My Day already knows part of my image, but that’s not all. I’m a rough person — I’m not always smiling and cute,\” prompting laughter from My Day.

Wonpil said he felt \”Toxic Love\” suited the album’s opening and deliberately began the set with it. He called \”I Became an Adult\” a favorite and described it as a song that reflects his own thoughts.

He followed with a medley from the mini album — \”Tissue Paper,\” \”Erase\” and \”When I Draw.\” About \”When I Draw,\” he said, \”I love this song. When I wrote it, I talked with friends about the future. I don’t think I’ve yet become the person I imagined. I’m unfinished. I want to be more mature and cool, but I’m not there yet. I’m working hard to complete myself. If you haven’t finished your picture, I hope you’ll finish it with me.\”

Teasing the audience, he asked, \”Did it rain today? It seems to have stopped — then we can walk together,\” drawing cheers. He then introduced new songs back-to-back, including \”Shall We Walk More\” and \”Someday Spring Will Come.\” He reflected, \”Although spring seems to get shorter each year, I wrote ‘Someday Spring Will Come’ during a cold winter, hoping for spring. Some of you might be spending a lonely, cold winter right now, but I believe a warm spring will come for us. If you’re struggling, remember I’m here, and Day6 is here. Don’t be too hard on yourselves,\” offering comfort to fans.

He moved into Day6 material next, lifting the crowd with \”That’s How I Reached You,\” \”Home Alone,\” \”Wedding Song,\” \”Love, I Guess This Is Right,\” and \”Not a Million Flowers, But.\” During \”Love, I Guess This Is Right,\” he even received support from Do-hoon, who was seated in the audience, earning louder cheers.

The stage shifted when a long drape covered a protruding platform and light effects simulated falling rain. In that setting, Wonpil surprised the audience by appearing on a piano platform suspended above the crowd. The elevated piano enhanced the sense of space and created a three-dimensional sound. From that aerial stage he performed \”Piano,\” \”Like a Passing Breeze,\” and Day6’s \”You Were Beautiful,\” drawing sustained applause. He continued with a medley that included \”Late End\” and \”Goodbye, Farewell.\”

After the set, Wonpil showcased his dancing during \”Not a Million Flowers, But.\” He said the piano-lowering effect would not have been possible without \”Unpiltered,\” thanked fans for their support, and said he felt happy preparing the show. He also called for Seongjin and Dowoon to sing a line, turning the moment into a special bit of fan service.

Wonpil then delivered an uplifting sequence with \”Loner of a Lonely Island,\” \”Becoming a Writer in a Novel,\” and \”Wish,\” before closing the main set with \”Love Ward.\” A VCR highlighted his dedication to dance; he returned saying, \”I’ll make sure you have no regrets,\” and performed \”Up All Night\” with choreography that drew roaring approval. After the show he kept dancing and joked, \”Dance isn’t a big deal — practice a little,\” while admitting he had practiced hard. He said he worried it might be over the top, but decided to give everything on the final night and that his trainee days ultimately helped him pull it off.

\”I practiced choreography imagining what My Day would love,\” he said. \”Four years ago that concert left a painful mark, so this time I just wanted to show joy. I’m relieved you liked it. As my second solo concert, I really wanted to do well and show many new sides of me. While making music, I didn’t want to be boxed in, so I wanted to introduce new sounds.\” He said \”Unpiltered\” allowed him to present new music and facets of himself; despite hard times, he accepted his path humbly and worked through it.

He closed the night with \”Wish Me Luck\” and \”Step by Step,\” leaving My Day with a rich, memorable evening.
