On the 24th, KBS2’s ‘Pyeonstaurant’ featured engaged couple Shinji and Moonwon, who are scheduled to marry in May. The pair appeared on the show as a guest chef duo.

During the episode, Shinji ate the hot pot Moonwon had made and spoke candidly. She told him she felt both grateful and sorry, adding that if she hadn’t met him, last year probably wouldn’t have been as difficult — a reference to the controversy that surfaced then.

At the time, reports about Moonwon’s past divorce and the fact that he has children put him under strain. Shinji recalled, “He went through a hard time. He used to perform and sing at events, but those gigs stopped completely.”

Moonwon said he looked for work he could do and took jobs at a distribution center and cleaning stairwells. “I couldn’t just sit idle; I wanted to contribute,” he said. Shinji relayed the reaction from his Koyote bandmates: “They were worried. When they heard he was doing cleaning work, they said he’s really sincere and a good friend.”

Moonwon added that he felt there was little he could do to change others’ perceptions except to work harder and demonstrate who he is. “My mother told me to treat my wife well,” he said. “If she smiles a lot, that’s enough for me.” He spoke with a cautiously optimistic tone.

Hearing him, Shinji affirmed that he was already enough. “What people see isn’t everything,” she said, showing affection. “I’m grateful and proud of you. You endured it well. You don’t need to do more — just stay as you are.”
