[Sports Seoul | Reporter Yoon Dong-eon] Singer and actress IU spent a relaxed, music-filled afternoon with her drama co-stars on an episode of her YouTube series “Mini Palette.”
IU dropped a new episode of “Mini Palette” on the 23rd, opening the show with, “It feels like nearly a year and a few months have passed, but I wouldn’t give up this great format.”
The episode brought together IU and Byeon Woo-seok, along with fellow cast members Yoo Su-bin and Lee Yeon from the drama “21st Century Great Madam.”
IU teased Byeon about his dual career, asking, “Aren’t you essentially both a singer and an actor?” She was referring to the strong chart performance of his OST “Sonagi.” Byeon deflected the praise, replying modestly, “I just enjoy it and have fun.”
The group traded behind-the-scenes stories and talked about the songs that helped them bond while singing on set. True to the show’s musical bent, the episode featured several live performances: Lee Yeon delivered a stirring take on IU’s debut single “Mia,” and an unreleased OST featuring Sam Kim was revealed for the first time. The cast said the new track conjured images from the drama as they listened.
Notably, Byeon picked “Geudaeneyo (You Are the One)” as the duet to perform with IU. “Many of this song’s lyrics mirror the situation between Hee-joo (IU) and Wan (my character),” he said, “so I thought it would be meaningful to sing it together.” Yoo Su-bin then joined IU for a rendition of “Leon,” taking on Park Myung-soo’s part and delivering a surprise rap that lifted the energy in the room.
For the finale, IU and Byeon closed the show with a duet of “This Kind of Ending.”
Fans responded enthusiastically online, posting comments such as, “IU and Byeon’s voices blend beautifully,” “Both the singing and visuals are perfect,” and “It’s rare and special to hear Byeon sing.” hellboy321@sportsseoul.com
