The Daejeon City Symphony Orchestra is staging a family-oriented classical program aimed at young children.
Titled “EQ-Up Concert: The Nutcracker,” the orchestra will perform at the Daejeon Arts Center Art Hall on the 29th and 30th. The production is geared toward children ages 3 and up and blends classical music, ballet and theatrical elements so the material feels accessible and welcoming.
The program revolves around Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker. Told in a storytelling format that follows Clara and Fritz, the performance adds ballet and staged acting to help children naturally sink into the music.
Park Geun-tae, who became the orchestra’s principal conductor in March, will lead the performances. Park has drawn attention on European stages after winning a French opera conducting competition and being chosen for the final cohort of the Riccardo Muti Academy. This concert marks his first appearance with the Daejeon ensemble.
Afternoon shows will feature interactive segments such as “Meet the Instruments,” which introduces orchestral instruments, and an audience-participation piece called “Let’s All Sing! — Children’s Song Medley.” The hands-on elements let kids do more than watch and listen; they can join in and experience the concert directly.
Performances are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Tickets are KRW 10,000 (about $7.50) for R seats and KRW 7,000 (about $5.25) for S seats. Reservations can be made through the Daejeon City Symphony Orchestra and Daejeon Arts Center websites, or via NolTicket.
