MBN’s trot audition series Mumyeongjeonseol (Unknown Legend) has only grown more talked-about with each installment. Standout contestants keep emerging onstage, and fandom rivalries are intensifying.

On April 16, ratings firm Nielsen Korea reported that episode 8, which aired April 15, peaked at a paid-household rating of 8.285%. The show has held the top spot among Wednesday variety programs for eight consecutive weeks, leading its time slot and ranking No. 1 across all general cable channels.

The series is also gaining traction online. Good Data Corporation’s FUNdex placed it No. 1 in the non-drama TV/OTT search-response category for the second week of April. In the non-drama search-issue keyword top 10 for cast members, Kim Han-yul ranked seventh, Seongri eighth, and Iru-ne ninth.

The previous episode opened with Round 1 of the \”National Song Competition,\” a team medley in which contestants reinterpreted classics by music legends such as Choi Baek-ho, Jeon Young-rok, Kim Jin-ryong and Jang Yoon-jung. Under the episode’s dramatic rules, the entire first-place team advances straight to the semifinals while the others become elimination candidates, raising the stakes and prompting fiercer performances than ever.

Judges awarded the top Pro Dan score to the ‘Haru Onjongil’ team for its Jang Yoon-jung medley. The group—Haru, Park Min-su, Hwang Yoon-seong, Choi Jong-won and Lee Dae-hwan—earned praise for tight chemistry and a controlled, confident performance, securing a direct ticket to the semifinals. The runner-up was the ‘Ttechangminguk’ team, which offered a Jeon Young-rok medley; Lee Chang-min, Seongri, Go Young-tae and Hwang Min-woo delivered a lively, well-synchronized set that captivated the audience.

Third place went to ‘Nangmanitjiu,’ a team of unsigned singers: Yoo Ji-woo, Jang Han-byul, Lee Woo-jung and Kwak Hee-sung. They performed Choi Baek-ho classics—including \”Beautiful Times,\” \”If You Go to Busan,\” \”About Romance,\” \”Following the Wind,\” and \”Yeongilman Friends\”—with faithful, polished arrangements, earning 928 points. Afterward, Choi Baek-ho reflected, \”Leaving such talented artists unknown is our responsibility; the world has gone blind,\” a remark that left a strong impression.

Youthful energy defined fourth-place ‘Simkuwoongdan,’ which scored 914 points. Kim Tae-woong, Kim Han-yul, Son Eun-seol, Moon Eun-seok and Lee Do-jin delivered an energetic performance that resonated with viewers. Despite a flu setback for Choi Woo-jin, ‘Yeonho-ne Jinbbong Myungpum’ completed an emotional set and placed fifth with 871 points. With the public pro-team scores and the ‘Top Ace’ stage yet to be revealed, these rankings remain subject to change.

In the show’s People’s Choice vote, Seongri claimed No. 1 for a fourth consecutive week, demonstrating a formidable fandom. Hwang Yoon-seong, Kim Han-yul and Yoo Ji-woo have also remained consistently near the top. Capitalizing on this momentum, fan-vote platform Giftree will run a \”Mumyeongjeonseol Favorite Trot Star\” poll from April 17 through May 15, closing at 5 p.m. KST on the final day.

The ballot includes Seongri, Hwang Yoon-seong, Choi Woo-jin, Han Garak, Haru, Son Eun-seol, Lee Dae-hwan, Kim Han-yul, Park Min-su and Yoo Ji-woo. Observers expect a close contest, particularly among Seongri (a four-week No. 1), Hwang Yoon-seong (whose team earned a direct semifinal berth), Kim Han-yul (a high-profile contender) and Yoo Ji-woo (recognized for emotional performances).
