Veteran actor Lee Beom-soo said his greatest regret after his divorce is how it affected his children.
On the 12th, SBS aired an episode of its variety show My Little Old Boy that documented Lee’s life following the split.
Lee, who said he recently finalized an amicable divorce, spoke in measured tones about the experience. “There are no winners in a divorce,” he said. “My own pain doesn’t matter. I’m most sorry for my children.”
He recalled that two or three days after the settlement his children reached out saying they missed him, and “we laughed together for the first time in years.” He added that his son and daughter visit often and called them “very thoughtful” children for whom he is deeply grateful.
Addressing misunderstandings that surfaced as the divorce played out in the press, Lee said, “I think staying silent was the right choice. I felt sorry for the kids and wanted to keep quiet. I didn’t want to draw attention.”
Asked how he felt the day the legal proceedings concluded, he said he felt like he’d been “beaten all over,” but that resolving an issue that had weighed on him for two to three years allowed him to finally relax.
Lee married translator and interpreter Lee Yoon-jin in 2010; the couple had one son and one daughter. They separated in 2024 after 14 years of marriage. In February, Lee’s camp announced that the legal procedures surrounding the divorce were completed through an amicable settlement.
