[Sports Today reporter Lim Si-ryeong] YouTuber and broadcaster KwakTube issued an apology over a sponsorship controversy involving a postpartum care facility.
On the 10th, KwakTube posted a lengthy statement on his YouTube channel saying he felt \”heavy-hearted\” for causing concern with the recent controversy over his use of a postpartum care center.
He explained that after his wife’s delivery the facility upgraded their room and provided certain complimentary services. He initially disclosed the sponsorship on social media, but later recognized that the way he described the arrangement could lead to misunderstandings and amended the post.
He said that, because his wife is a government employee, he sought legal counsel after the issue surfaced and confirmed the arrangement was a private agreement between him and the facility and was unrelated to his wife’s official duties. Still, he acknowledged that, as the family member of a public servant, he should have acted with greater caution and pledged to fully cooperate with any required procedural inquiries.
KwakTube said the episode prompted him to reflect on himself and those around him. He apologized for his lack of consideration and announced a donation of 30,000,000 KRW (approximately $22,500) to support single mothers. He also stated he has paid the postpartum center the full difference for the upgraded room.
In closing, he said he will not only adhere to legal standards but also give greater thought to social responsibility and act accordingly, and he bowed in apology to everyone who felt uncomfortable.
The controversy began after KwakTube labeled a photo taken at the postpartum care center his government-employee wife used as \”sponsored\” on social media. His agency maintained it was a room upgrade rather than a full sponsorship, but as concerns grew about potential violations of the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act, the \”sponsored\” label drew criticism and was subsequently removed.
