[Sports Today reporter Kim Tae-hyung] Singer Kim Jang‑hoon has laid out the full story behind the widely criticized in-flight smoking incident.
On the 7th, the YouTube channel Song Seung‑hwan’s Wonderful Life uploaded Episode 8, titled \”Singer Kim Jang‑hoon — Episode 8 (Settling the political-leaning controversy today…!).\”
In the video, Kim recalled that he had a concert scheduled in Italy and that he had been named Artist of the Year during the Venice Carnival.
He said that, with the pope’s help, he secured a stage at one of the world’s oldest venues and that the atmosphere was electric. After the show, roughly 300 teenagers and people in their twenties waited to take photos.
Kim went on to say that the following day he was due to perform in Paris, but the instruments didn’t arrive due to a delivery problem. He suffered a panic attack and took medication, yet the equipment still hadn’t arrived by the next morning. After taking the drugs, he passed out and woke up to find the performance had already ended.
He added that on the flight home he took his panic-disorder medication but felt so agitated that it didn’t seem to take effect. He confessed to taking 30 sleeping pills and said that, while his mind drifted, he wondered whether the fire alarm would actually sound. His memory is fuzzy, but he said it did go off. He made clear he didn’t want to offer excuses or claim diminished responsibility. \”My memory is hazy from the meds, but I don’t want to use that as a defense. Whatever the reason, it was my fault. I’ll do my best to live with a clear mind going forward,\” he said.
Kim also said that when they landed at Incheon Airport, two detectives were waiting. He held out his hands but was not handcuffed. The fine was initially 1,000,000 KRW (approximately 750 USD), and when he asked to have it reduced to 500,000 KRW (approximately 375 USD), they agreed. He noted that the amount can make a significant difference when it comes to a suspension of indictment. \”That’s how it was resolved,\” he added.
