[Sports Today reporter Lim Si-ryeong] Baek Jong-won, CEO of The Born Korea, addressed recent controversies and outlined his plans for the company’s future.
At a shareholders’ meeting held on the 31st in Seocho-gu, Seoul, Baek said that the company lost a year to a wave of cyberattacks and a flood of baseless complaints and accusations from certain groups.
He added that, with nearly all allegations now cleared, the company is finally resuming business activities that were put on hold last year.
Baek took a hard line against certain YouTubers and groups he accused of spreading slander and carrying out coordinated attacks, vowing to pursue legal action to ensure shareholders and franchisees do not suffer repeated harm.
He also announced plans to return to YouTube, saying there is significant international interest in Korean cuisine and that he plans to teach Korean recipes on the platform.
On the possibility of returning to television, he said he has no firm decision yet but will consider it now that investigations are clearing his name, adding that this is an important moment to promote Korean food abroad.
The Born Korea previously faced criticism over alleged violations of food sanitation and farmland laws, disputes over franchise operations and accusations of abusive behavior on broadcasts. The stock reached a post-listing high of ₩64,500 (about $48.38) but tumbled into the ₩20,000 range (around $15.00) amid successive controversies.
Facing mounting criticism about owner-related risks, Baek announced via his YouTube channel in May last year that he would suspend all broadcasting activities except for programs already in production, saying he would devote his energy entirely to developing The Born Korea as a business leader rather than as a broadcaster.
Meanwhile, aside from the Netflix series ‘Black & White Chef 2’ and the tvN variety show ‘Boss Baek 3’, his other broadcast activities remain suspended.
