Actor Kim Yong-gun revealed his devotion to his late-in-life son on the tvN STORY series What’s the Point of Leaving?.
On the March 30 episode, a special called “The Geumchon Family” brought Lee Young-ja, Jung Sun-hee, Lim Chang-jung and Kim Yong-gun together to look back on the past.
Kim also opened up his Han River–view apartment to cameras that day. The living room was spacious and stylish, and the home was dotted with reminders of his eldest son, Ha Jung-woo.
A family photo of his two sons, Ha Jung-woo and Kim Young-hoon, sat in the living room, alongside wedding photos of Young-hoon and his wife, Hwang Bo-ra.

Standing in his study, Kim pointed to a childhood photo of Ha Jung-woo and noted, “The photo is over half a century old, so the colors have faded. I come in sometimes to look at it.”
Paintings by Ha Jung-woo were displayed along the hallway. The actor-turned-painter’s work gave the home a gallery-like feel, and Kim spoke about each piece with obvious pride.
Kim fathered a son in 2021 with a partner who is 39 years his junior; he was 77 at the time. He has since completed the registration process and is supporting the child’s upbringing.

In a preview clip, Kim displayed his doting side while talking about his late-born son. When Jung Sun-hee suggested he would be good at playing with a grandchild, Kim replied, “I’ve got another one, you know,” naturally mentioning his 6-year-old son.
He added, “My son has a loud voice, and I lose count of how many times he calls ‘Dad.’ When I sleep alone, he wakes up in the middle of the night and comes to my side. If I wake up first, I check the clock and wait to see if he’ll come.”
He went on to say, “Thinking I don’t have much time left, I hope we have a long time together,” expressing deep affection for his son.
