[Sports Today reporter Kim Tae-hyung] SBS Plus has confirmed that its new variety series, Tough Guys’ Travel Guide, starring Choo Sung-hoon, Kim Jong-kook and Daesung, will premiere on April 21 at 8:40 p.m.
Tough Guys’ Travel Guide is an unfiltered travel series that follows three men acting on pure instinct. South Korea’s archetypal tough guys Choo Sung-hoon and Kim Jong-kook, joined by the younger, quick-witted Daesung, trade petty competitions, relentless posturing and gleefully juvenile antics in an adrenaline-fueled bromance on the road. Early clips have already proved the show’s buzz, accumulating a combined five million views.
Choo, Kim and Daesung form a compelling entertainment trio: proven box-office appeal, strong personalities and killer chemistry. Choo, a fighting legend who has carved out a dominant ajossi persona across variety and YouTube; Kim, the only person who seems comfortable calling out Choo; and Daesung, the savvy youngest member who deftly mediates between them — together they command nearly seven million YouTube subscribers, bringing undeniable star power and an appetite for mischief that promises fresh laughs.
On the 27th, Tough Guys’ Travel Guide dropped a teaser on the SBS Plus YouTube channel and social media that delivers an adrenaline rush just watching it. The clip opens at a gym, with Choo, Kim and Daesung then reuniting for a bravado-laced showdown. Choo quips, “I’m a tough guy, so I don’t brush my teeth.” Kim fires back, “What kind of tough guy uses hand lotion?” and Daesung deadpans, “That’s how real tough guys are,” laying bare the trio’s irrepressible personalities.
The teaser also hints that the trio will adopt escalating personas — the eccentric tough guy, the swaggering tough guy and the old-school tough guy — as they head to Japan for a chaotic trip. Choo taunts, “Do I really kick that hard?” and Kim’s curt “Nope!” makes Choo flinch, while Daesung reels between them. Those moments raise expectations for a raw, instinct-driven travel series.
The show has drawn extra attention because it reunites the creative team behind Law of the Jungle, led by PD Kim Jin-ho. Known for reinventing survival-variety, Kim’s involvement has viewers curious to see how jungle-honed survival instincts translate to this extreme macho travel format and what a next-level travel variety show might look like.
Producers said they’re delighted to launch the series just as travel-friendly weather arrives, and they’re confident Choo Sung-hoon, Kim Jong-kook and Daesung’s on-screen mishaps will deliver a laughter-filled journey for viewers.
