Singer Gree opened up about accepting his stepmother into the family.
On March 28, during an episode of KBS2’s Men Who Do Housekeeping 2, Gree appeared as a guest and shared several personal stories.
“My younger sibling is six years old. They’ve grown a lot, so we decided to take them to Tokyo Disneyland this Sunday,” he said. “My stepmother and the rest of the family are going, too.”
Lee Yo-won asked whether he had started calling her “Mom.” Gree said he began using “Mom” on the day he was discharged from the military; before that, he had addressed her as “nuna” (a term a male uses for an older sister).
He admitted changing the way he addressed her wasn’t easy. “I kept putting it off, and when I finally called her ‘Mom,’ I felt it was too late, so I sent a text to apologize,” he said. She was touched and now refers to him as her son.
Gree reflected that summoning a bit of courage brought the family closer and taught him a lot.
Host Eun Ji-won called it classic material for the show, while Park Seo-jin joked, “Mind if I tag along?” prompting laughter.
Gree’s father, TV personality Kim Gura, married a non-celebrity in 1997; they had Gree and remained married for 17 years before divorcing in 2015. At the time, his ex-wife was reported to have accumulated debts said to be in the tens of billions of KRW (roughly $7.5–15 million), which Kim Gura reportedly paid off.
He later remarried a non-celebrity 12 years his junior, and the couple has a younger daughter.
