[Sports Today reporter Song O-jeong] Prosecutors have charged a college classmate after he allegedly gave another YouTuber false information claiming that mukbang star Tzuyang (real name Park Jung-won) vomits after eating — a phenomenon known online as “meokto.”
On the 2nd of last month, the Third Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office summarily indicted the man identified as O on defamation charges under the Information and Communications Network Act and fined him 7 million KRW (approximately $5,250).
Prosecutors say O, who attended college with Tzuyang, told YouTuber Jujakgambyeolsa (real name Jeon Guk-jin) in November 2020 that he had seen signs Tzuyang had vomited after a giant pasta mukbang — an allegation prosecutors now say was false.
O denied the charges during the investigation, insisting he had told the truth.
Prosecutors said they found his account unreliable after reviewing witness testimony and noting that the day O met Tzuyang was the broadcast date of the giant pasta mukbang, not the day it was filmed.
Separately, Jujakgambyeolsa — the YouTuber who received the false tip — was earlier convicted of threatening to expose Tzuyang’s private life and extorting money from her. A court sentenced him to one year in prison, suspended for three years.
