[Variety] Baek Jong-won, the renowned South Korean restaurateur and TV personality, is mourning the loss of his mother. The news also affects actress So Yoo-jin, Baek’s wife, who has lost her mother-in-law.
Industry sources reported on the 10th that Baek’s mother, Lee Kyung-sook, passed away at the age of 86. Respecting the family’s wishes, the funeral service will be held tomorrow (11th) at 10 AM in Room 31 of Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital. In a 2022 YouTube video, Baek had shared personal insights about his mother, revealing, “When I said I wanted to start a business, my grandparents disapproved. My mother often faced criticism from my grandmother because of my choices. I’m deeply grateful and sorry to her.” Baek Jong-won, a culinary expert and successful entrepreneur, tied the knot with actress So Yoo-jin in January 2013. The couple has two children, a son and a daughter. The burial ceremony is scheduled for 8 AM on the 13th.
