[Variety – Reporter Sarah Johnson] The tragic case of actor Kim Tae-hyung’s wife, who murdered their three sons in a motel, has resurfaced in the media spotlight.
A recent online forum post titled “Actor Who Lost Three Children at Once” has reignited interest in Kim Tae-hyung’s 2022 appearance on MBN’s “Exclusive World,” where he shared updates about his life following the devastating incident.
In 2012, Kim experienced an unthinkable tragedy when his wife, identified only as Ms. A, killed their three young sons in a motel. Reflecting on their family life before the incident, Kim said, “She was a good mother. She took great care of the kids without spoiling them. I was extremely busy during their formative years and noticed I was becoming harsher with them, often losing my temper. I remember wondering, ‘Why is she getting so irritated?'”
Kim recounted the day of the tragedy: “My wife said she was taking the kids out for some fresh air. They never came back. I reported it to the police, and a week later, they informed me they had found her. I was in complete shock.”
The victims were 8, 6, and 3 years old at the time of the murders. Kim revealed that he still struggles to comprehend his ex-wife’s motives. Despite his attempts to meet with her, his requests were denied. She received a 20-year prison sentence and is scheduled for release in 2033 at the age of 59.

Following the incident and subsequent divorce, Kim shared, “The hatred and anger have subsided. Forgiveness seems like an abstract concept; I’m just trying to survive.” The actor took a lengthy hiatus from his career, battling severe panic disorder and depression. With encouragement from a friend, he eventually found solace in pet sitting and expressed a desire to return to acting.

To cope with his loss, Kim writes letters to his children in heaven. “I promise to live a good life so we can reunite in heaven,” he said. “If I end up in hell, I won’t be able to see them again.”
The online community reacted to Kim’s story with an outpouring of sympathy and shock. Comments ranged from “This is heartbreaking” and “She killed three children and only got 20 years?” to “I can’t even imagine what he’s going through” and “I admire his strength to keep going.”
Kim Tae-hyung made his entertainment industry debut in 1993 as part of KBS’s 15th talent recruitment class.
