[MyDaily = Reporter Kwak Myung-dong] TV host Noh Hong-chul revealed why he ended up enrolling at Hongik University’s Sejong campus (formerly Jochiwon).
On May 15, his YouTube channel posted a video titled “Noh Hong-chul Shocked: Today’s Young Adults and the Realities of Renting.”
That day, Noh was on his way to a housewarming for a staff member who lives in a studio apartment in Mapo District. Asked whether he’d ever lived on his own, he said he started living independently earlier than most.
He explained that his father worked for Samsung Electronics and, when his father was assigned to the Jeolla region while Noh was a high school senior, the whole family had to move.
He recalled that his mother worried he wouldn’t be able to focus on his studies in his final year of high school, and that he wanted to live alone. He told them he would study by himself near the rear gate of Children’s Grand Park so he could get into college.

But living alone produced an unexpected result for his college entrance.
Noh quipped that the choice proved costly: as his grades slipped, the schools he could get into moved progressively farther from Seoul, drawing laughter.
Noh is an alumnus of Hongik University’s Sejong campus, where he studied mechanical information engineering. He once said on a broadcast that it took him a total of 10 years to finish college—a remark that drew attention.
