The Suwon Middle and High School Alumni Association hosted the 40th annual “One-Heart” alumni sports day at Suwon High School’s athletic field on May 9.
According to the association, about 600 people attended, including alumni from the 1st through the 75th graduating classes and local political and civic leaders. The event celebrated cross-generational unity and renewed friendships.
This year’s sports day was a chance to reaffirm pride in the school’s 117-year history since its founding in 1909, and to strengthen alumni bonds and devotion to the alma mater amid changing times.
Park Joo-wang, president of the alumni association, said in his opening remarks, “Over its 117-year history, the school has produced countless talented graduates and has played a significant role in the development of our local community and the nation. I hope this event serves as a forum for dialogue and harmony between senior and junior alumni and helps us build a stronger future for the alumni association.”

Park added, “We will grow the alumni association together with younger graduates by establishing an alumni center and expanding scholarship programs. We will also work to make the association an open organization that all alumni can join with pride.”
Lee Sun-guk, chairman of the Suwon Seongsil Scholarship Foundation and CEO and publisher of the Gyeonggi Ilbo, said in his congratulatory remarks, “The greatest asset of Suwon Middle and High School is the strong bonds and community spirit between generations of alumni. The Suwon Seongsil Scholarship Foundation has grown thanks to alumni dedication and participation, and we will continue to expand scholarship programs for younger graduates and support the development of the alumni community.”
He added, “I hope the newly established alumni center and scholarship facilities become a focal point for alumni unity and a place of hope for future generations. The scholarship foundation will remain a steadfast partner in advancing our alma mater and the alumni community.”
For its part, the Suwon Middle and High School Alumni Association uses the annual One-Heart sports day not only to strengthen fellowship and ties among alumni but also to support the school’s development and ongoing community service initiatives.
