[SPOTV News=Reporter Bae Sun-young] YouTuber and Heart Signal 4 cast member Kim Ji-young announced she will donate ₩10,000,000 (about $7,500) from her wedding cash gifts to charity.
On May 8, Kim posted on her social media asking, “How are you spending Mother’s Day evening?” and said she wanted to share part of her wedding gifts with a meaningful cause. “I’ve maintained a long-standing relationship with, and sincerely supported, the Stair-Breaker Club, so I decided to make a donation,” she wrote.
The Stair-Breaker Club produces maps and resources to improve mobility for people with limited mobility — including wheelchair users, older adults and caregivers pushing strollers. Kim added, “After we marry, we don’t want to focus only on our own happiness. We’ll try to live deliberately in ways that spread a little warmth to those around us.”
Kim is married to Yoon Soo-young, the founder of Trevari, South Korea’s largest paid reading community, and she is currently pregnant. The couple held their wedding in February at a venue in Gangnam, Seoul.
On her YouTube channel, Kim also discussed the wedding expenses. She said, “My husband covered all the wedding-related costs,” and added that neither of them received financial support from their parents. She explained that, because of her work, she received many sponsorships and discounts and that household items — furniture and appliances — were already in place before they moved. Taking that into account, her husband paid for the wedding.
Addressing the choice of a large, pricey Gangnam venue, she noted, “There aren’t many places in the country that can accommodate more than 1,000 guests,” and said the couple was able to offset the venue’s cost with the wedding gifts they received.
