By Kim Won-gyeom, SPOTV News — Chef Jung Ji-seon of the KBS2 show The Boss Has Donkey Ears (also known as Sadanggwi) was taken aback when he learned his son, Woo-hyung, spent 290,000 KRW (approximately 217.50 USD) in a single month.
In episode 354, which airs at 4:40 p.m. on the 26th, Woo-hyung admitted, “I’ve been spending way too much lately,” and revealed he had spent 290,000 KRW (approximately 217.50 USD) over the past month, leaving Jung visibly shocked.
Jung asked, “Where are you spending it?” and questioned how Woo-hyung could burn through roughly 300,000 KRW (approximately 225.00 USD) when his monthly allowance is only 50,000 KRW (approximately 37.50 USD). Woo-hyung said he’s been learning by watching his father trade stocks and that holiday pocket money and small stock gains have been covering his spending, which only fueled Jung’s frustration.
When Jung criticized his son’s financial habits—saying an elementary-school student spending 300,000 KRW (approximately 225.00 USD) a month is excessive—Woo-hyung pushed back, “It wasn’t 300,000 KRW (approximately 225.00 USD); I spent 290,000 KRW (approximately 217.50 USD).” Jung shot back, “There’s no difference between 290,000 KRW (approximately 217.50 USD) and 300,000 KRW (approximately 225.00 USD),” narrowing his eyes as he tried to restore discipline.
The two then clashed over what constitutes a reasonable monthly allowance for an elementary-school child: Jung argued for 50,000 KRW (approximately 37.50 USD) a month, while Woo-hyung insisted on 200,000 KRW (approximately 150.00 USD). As the debate heated up, viewers were left wondering whether Jung can curb the spending habits of his 13-year-old son, who is now entering puberty.
