[EPN Enpinow reporter Go Nari] MBC will air footage of Goo Seong-hwan saying a final farewell to his dog, Kkotbuni, a companion who meant a great deal to him.
On the April 24 broadcast of MBC’s I Live Alone, viewers follow Goo Seong-hwan as he nears Busan’s Gwangalli Beach, concluding a 446 km cross-country trek. With just 1 km remaining, he pauses at the sight of the sea, overcome by conflicting emotions, clasps Kkotbuni’s bracelet on his wrist, and forces himself to take another step.
When he finally reaches the sand at Gwangalli Beach, exhaustion overcomes him and he sinks to the shore, staring out at the water that holds so many memories of Kkotbuni. He says he hasn’t seen her since that day and, for the first time in a long while, scrolls through the photos of her saved on his phone.
Overcome with feeling, he cannot hold back his tears. Facing the sea, he calls out, “You did well, didn’t you?” and offers a heartfelt final farewell to Kkotbuni in the sky. The 16 nights and 17 days of his trek and the 11 years they shared rush back all at once.
In February, Goo Seong-hwan personally announced that Kkotbuni had crossed the rainbow bridge. At the time, he said he had repeatedly written and deleted posts and still found it hard to believe, expressing profound grief.
The sudden loss left him even more tender-hearted, and he lamented not having had more time together.
Goo Seong-hwan’s final reflections on Kkotbuni will air with renewed resonance on I Live Alone on April 24 at 11:10 p.m.
