[Herald Economy=Reporter Son In-gyu] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 19th that it will open the outdoor library Reading Seoul Plaza on the 1st of next month and run special programming through Children’s Day on the 5th.
Reading Seoul Plaza is an outdoor library set up in Seoul Plaza for people to enjoy reading. It is one of three outdoor library hubs in the city, alongside Gwanghwamun Book Yard and Cheonggyecheon’s “Reading Clear Stream.” The other two hubs opened on the 23rd of last month.
For the opening week, the city will stage events tied to Children’s Day, including “Family Book Calm” — where families switch off digital devices and read together — a parenting talk concert for mothers and fathers, and a variety of performances and recreational programs.
On the 3rd, the “Sunday Fathers Club” book talk will be held in conjunction with “Mom Book Boost,” a program that sends book boxes to expectant parents to help establish a home reading environment.
During the opening week, organizers will also run a “Peekaboo Book Plaza Ticket” promotion that awards cotton candy to anyone who finds a hidden ticket among the books, and a “Surprise Raffle Ticket” giveaway that awards gifts between 5:40 p.m. and 6 p.m.
Kim Tae-hee, director of Seoul’s Culture Department, said, “Through a range of programs, we will broaden residents’ everyday reading experiences, spread Seoul’s vibrant reading culture, and aim to lead reading culture worldwide.”
