[SPOTV News — Reporter Kim Hyun-rok] Goo Seong-hwan, who lost his dog Kkotbuni — a companion he called like a daughter — opened up with a visibly hollowed expression.
The April 17 episode of MBC’s I Live Alone (directed by Heo Hang, Kang Ji-hee, Kim Jin-kyung, Moon Ki-young, Jung Ji-woon) follows Goo as he attempts a cross-country trek from Seoul to Busan.
In a preview clip, Goo says, “I’m currently on a cross-country trek from Seoul to Busan,” revealing that this is his third time attempting the journey.
He recalled trying and failing in his twenties, driven by youth and bravado. The footage juxtaposes that younger self with his current appearance in his forties — little changed — a contrast that drew laughs.
Goo spoke calmly about his motivations: “I think this will be my last attempt. After losing Kkotbuni suddenly — the dog I raised for 11 years — I was emotionally crushed. Of course it hurts. She was like my daughter.”
He added, “I wanted to break out of that grief. Walking felt like the way to do it.”
Focusing solely on Kkotbuni, Goo set out on the 446 km (277.1 miles) trek from Seoul to Gwanganri in Busan. “So far, I’ve walked 421 km (261.7 miles) over 16 days. I have just 25 km (15.5 miles) left,” he said, his resolve clear.

Goo has regularly shared his single life with Kkotbuni on I Live Alone. Viewers warmed to the scenes of him and the affectionate dog together. In February, he revealed that Kkotbuni had passed away and spoke openly about his grief.
Goo’s 446 km (277.1 miles) walk from Seoul to Busan will be shown on MBC’s I Live Alone on the 17th at 11:10 PM.
