CJ Olive Young has opened a global specialty store in Myeong-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul, aimed squarely at international visitors.
On the 26th, Olive Young announced the opening of Olive Young Central Myeong-dong Town, the company’s second-largest store in South Korea.
The new location spans three floors and roughly 3,140 square meters (about 33,793 sq ft). After the recently opened Olive Young N Seongsu, it’s the chain’s second-largest store nationwide.
Given Myeong-dong’s heavy tourist traffic, Olive Young is positioning this store as a K-beauty hub where visitors can experience products and services firsthand.
The store features around 1,000 brands and approximately 15,000 products, making it one of the most extensive assortments across Olive Young locations. Notably, sheet masks—the top purchase among foreign shoppers—are given over ten times the display space typically seen in other stores.
Checkout convenience has also been upgraded. The store includes 22 staffed checkout counters—the most in any Olive Young offline location—to cut wait times, and the flow from item scanning to packing was optimized using data analysis.
To better serve international customers, staff fluent in English, Chinese, and Japanese are on hand at all times, and guidance on tax refund services for foreign currency has been strengthened.
An Olive Young spokesperson said, “Central Myeong-dong Town showcases the essence of K-beauty through its overwhelming selection and scale. We expect the in-store experience to spark purchases back in customers’ home countries, creating a virtuous cycle that will help expand the K-beauty industry.”
