[Sports Seoul | Reporter Kim Hyun-deok] Chef Ahn Seong-jae’s fine-dining restaurant, Mosu Seoul, is facing backlash after an online review claimed the kitchen served a different, more expensive vintage than the one ordered.
On the 22nd, a user identified only as A posted to an online community saying that during a recent visit to Mosu Seoul, “the wine pairing served a different vintage than what I ordered.”
A says they booked the meal as a birthday celebration and ordered Château Léoville Barton. The sommelier initially brought a 2005 bottle, even though the printed wine list showed the 2000 vintage.
During the meal, A noticed the wine’s taste and aroma didn’t match their past experiences and raised the issue. When they asked the sommelier to confirm the vintage, the sommelier changed his story, saying, “A 2000 bottle was on the first floor.” A suspects the staff may have known from the start that the wrong wine had been served.
After the service, when A asked to photograph the bottle, the sommelier finally brought out and set down the 2000 vintage. “Didn’t they know it was the wrong wine from the beginning?” A asked. The two bottles differed in price by about 100,000 KRW (approximately $75 USD).
A added that the error at a two-Michelin-star restaurant was troubling, and the staff’s response—offering only to “let us taste it” without an apology—felt inadequate.
With questions about service quality mounting, Mosu Seoul has not yet issued an official statement about the controversy. khd9987@sportsseoul.com
