Matryoshka has surged to the top of ticket-sales charts ahead of its new season.
Ticketing platform NOL reported on April 22 that the production was No. 1 in daily theater reservations. The spike in interest follows announcements of newly added lead actors and rising performers, who have expressed enthusiasm ahead of the May 1 opening.

At the center of the production is Nam Dongjin, the troupe’s leader and director. The part is shared by a rotating lineup of veteran actors — Son Jonghak, Yoon Jemun, Jung Seokyong, Jo Heebong and Tae Hangho — each bringing extensive stage experience.
Tae Hangho, a recent addition to the cast, said rehearsing with such esteemed colleagues and directors has made the process especially meaningful.
Joo Dain introduces a contrasting tone, defined by an offbeat rhythm and precise comic timing. Park Sunho, Cha Sunwoo and newcomer Shin Seongha rotate through the role; each says they’re eager to respond to live audience reactions.
Shin Seongha, cast through an audition process, said he’s particularly keen to see how audiences react, while Cha Sunwoo emphasized the company’s collaborative dynamic and the cast’s focus on maintaining consistent comic energy.

Newly added performers Lee Gaeun, Lee Harin and Woo Jungin fill supporting roles, blending seasoned stagecraft with emerging talent and broadening the show’s interpretive range.
Matryoshka follows a small theater troupe wrestling with financial instability as it seeks investment for a new production. The narrative unfolds through a cascade of unexpected, often chaotic episodes built on an intentionally exaggerated theatrical premise.
The play balances tightly structured comedy with brisk pacing, delivering a steady stream of laughs while probing the mechanics of theatrical production.
With strong ticket demand and a reshaped cast, the new season positions Matryoshka as an ensemble-driven comedy that foregrounds company interaction and direct audience engagement.
