[Sports Today reporter Jeong Ye-won] Mosu Seoul, the fine-dining restaurant run by Chef Ahn Seong-jae, issued an apology over a wine-switching controversy — and now someone who dined with the party has come forward with fresh details.
Recently, an online user identified as A posted that Mosu Seoul served the wrong wine during a tasting. While enjoying the restaurant’s wine pairing, they say a 2005 vintage was poured instead of the 2000. After noticing differences in taste and aroma and asking for confirmation, the sommelier reportedly offered, “Then I’ll let you taste the 2000 vintage as well.”
Another diner, B, who said they were with A, added their account. B explained that two people in the group were studying for a wine exam, so they were chatting happily with the sommelier about wines when the mix-up occurred. After the 2000 vintage was served, staff allegedly tried to smooth things over by saying, “I hope comparing the 2005 and 2000 vintages helps with your studies.” B said they don’t recall anyone offering a sincere apology.
Mosu Seoul released a statement apologizing for the incident. “We sincerely apologize for causing confusion by failing to provide accurate guidance during the wine-pairing service and for not offering a sufficient explanation during our follow-up, which caused great disappointment. Chef Ahn Seong-jae and the entire Mosu team take this matter very seriously. We will not stop at a perfunctory apology; we will work to rebuild trust with our customers through genuine actions,” the restaurant said.
Mosu Seoul is a two-Michelin-star restaurant in Itaewon-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul. It’s operated by Chef Ahn Seong-jae, who appears as a judge on the Netflix series “Black and White Chefs: The Cooking Class War.”
