Shohei Ohtani (LA Dodgers) put on a one-man show, dominating on the mound and delivering a leadoff, first-pitch home run that proved to be the game-winner.
Ohtani started for the Dodgers on May 21 (Korean time) at Petco Park in San Diego. He tossed five scoreless innings, allowing three hits, and earned the victory. At the plate, he opened the game with a first-pitch leadoff home run, and the Dodgers’ 4–0 win made that blast the decisive run.
Including regular season and postseason play, it was the seventh time Ohtani started a game, threw a scoreless outing and also homered — the most such games in the modern era (since 1900). Bob Gibson previously held the record with six.
Dodgers infielder Ha-Seong Kim went 1-for-4. In the top of the second, with one out and a runner on first, Kim lined a single to right to push the lead to 2–0.
