K-pop supergroup BTS is set to perform during the halftime show at the 2026 FIFA World Cup final.
On the 14th (local time), Global Citizen and FIFA said BTS will co-headline the halftime show at the 2026 North American World Cup final on July 19 at the New York New Jersey Stadium in the United States.
It will be the first time a halftime show has been staged at a World Cup final. FIFA and Global Citizen conceived the event to bring sport, music and culture together on a global stage. BTS will share top billing with pop icons Madonna and Shakira.
Through their agency Big Hit Music, BTS said, “We are honored to perform on a stage that brings the world together. We believe music is a universal language that delivers hope and unity. Sharing that message with a global audience through this World Cup and helping expand educational opportunities for children makes this moment even more meaningful.”
Global Citizen—the movement mobilizing to end extreme poverty—will produce the halftime show. The nonprofit mounts large-scale campaigns and music events addressing climate change, global health and access to education. Organizers say the performance will raise awareness and support for the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, which seeks to provide quality education and greater access to sports for children in underserved communities worldwide.
The halftime show will be broadcast live around the world. Coldplay frontman Chris Martin will curate the program. Characters from Sesame Street and The Muppets are also slated to appear, promising a show that can be enjoyed by all ages.
This won’t be BTS’s first collaboration with Global Citizen. The group performed at Global Citizen LIVE in 2021, and member Jungkook appeared at the Global Citizen Festival in 2023. Jungkook also contributed vocals to the official 2022 FIFA World Cup soundtrack “Dreamers” and performed at that tournament’s opening ceremony.
Meanwhile, BTS will play three shows—on the 17th, 18th and 20th—at Stanford Stadium as part of their world tour, BTS WORLD TOUR ‘ARIRANG’ IN STANFORD. They will be the first Korean act to headline a solo concert at the venue.
