[TV Daily reporter Han Seo-yul] Paul McCartney, the British rock legend and former member of the Beatles, declined an invitation to appear on a celebrity roast comedy show.
On the 12th (local time), U.S. entertainment outlet Variety reported that Netflix had attempted to recruit McCartney to build on the momentum of the hugely successful 2024 celebrity roast series The Tom Brady Roast Show, but was unsuccessful. Producers told the outlet they regretted not securing McCartney, saying a roast centered on someone so beloved would have been a positive cultural moment and genuinely hilarious. Netflix recently live-streamed The Roast of Kevin Hart, which drew major attention when fellow stars made surprise appearances to mercilessly lampoon the comic. The show’s producers are now targeting even higher-profile names. They reportedly considered Will Smith — who has been working to rehabilitate his image following the Oscar controversy — and it took three years to persuade the series’ inaugural subject, football star Tom Brady, to take the stage. A producer said the team hopes to invite musicians, including pop stars and rappers, as future subjects. Beyond McCartney, he added, booking U.S. hip-hop star Drake or soul icon Stevie Wonder has long been an aspiration.
