[MyDaily = Reporter Kim Geon-ho] Miguel Delaney of The Independent reports that José Mourinho — Benfica’s manager and the leading candidate to return to Real Madrid — is interested in Marcus Rashford, currently on loan at Barcelona from Manchester United.
Rashford left Manchester United ahead of this season to join Barcelona on a one-year loan.
He enjoyed a productive season in Barcelona, appearing in 48 matches and tallying 14 goals and 14 assists. He helped the club win La Liga — the first domestic league title of his career — and also claimed the Supercopa de España.
Barcelona want to sign Rashford permanently. His loan reportedly includes a €30 million buy clause (about 52 billion KRW, approximately 32.1 million USD). Barcelona aims to negotiate a lower fee, but Manchester United is said to be holding firm on the €30 million (approximately 32.1 million USD) price.
With Rashford’s future unclear, Delaney wrote in his Inside Football newsletter that Mourinho is eyeing the forward.
Mourinho, who is currently managing Benfica, appears set to return to Real Madrid on a three-year deal.
Delaney wrote that, if a major development occurs, insiders familiar with the situation believe Mourinho could add intrigue by targeting Rashford. The Independent reports Barcelona now faces long-term renegotiation talks with Manchester United over the striker.
He added that Mourinho maintains a good relationship with Rashford and that there are two reasons Mourinho might pursue the move: to bring in a quality player he knows well, and to unsettle Barcelona.

Mourinho coached Rashford during his time at Manchester United. Under Mourinho, Rashford made 125 appearances, scoring 28 goals and adding 20 assists.
Still, a move to Real Madrid looks unlikely. Rashford has publicly expressed his fondness for Barcelona throughout the season and wants to stay.
