[Herald Economy — Reporter Son Mi-jeong] Byun Woo-seok’s song “Parallel Lines” arrives as the final entry on the original soundtrack (OST) for MBC’s Friday–Saturday drama “21st-Century Grand Lady.”
Kakao Entertainment said it will release “Parallel Lines,” OST Part. 11 from “21st-Century Grand Lady,” on the 15th at 6 p.m. across major online music platforms.
“Parallel Lines” is an emotional ballad that captures the bittersweet love between two people who have led very different lives. The song traces how lovers who seemed fated never to meet gradually move toward one another and ultimately converge.
Byun Woo-seok, who plays Grand Prince Ian in the drama, performs the song himself. He applies subtle phrasing to convey sincere devotion and the layered, unsteady emotions that arise when love collides with fate.
Kakao Entertainment said the track opens with a dreamy, lyrical piano motif that builds in intensity, and that Byun’s warm, resonant voice adds depth and immersion to the rising emotion.
A portion of the song was first teased during the ending of episode 10, attracting immediate attention.
Meanwhile, “21st-Century Grand Lady” has become something of an OST destination for fans, featuring K-pop artists across genres, including WOODZ, RIIZE, BIBI, Sam Kim, Han Roro and KiiiKiii. The series’ soundtrack entries have climbed high on major music charts at home and abroad.
Set in a fictional, 21st-century constitutional monarchy in Korea, “21st-Century Grand Lady” is a romance about breaking social barriers and forging one’s destiny. The series ranks first in its domestic time slot and topped Disney+’s global Top 10 TV Shows (Non-English) list, maintaining momentum through its finale.
The show drew early buzz, becoming the first series to hit number one in TV–OTT buzz metrics two weeks before its premiere, with its cast occupying the top two spots in talent buzz. It also sold out its advertising inventory, underscoring its status as one of the most anticipated releases of the first half of the year.
Episodes 11 and 12, which air on the 15th and 16th, will reveal how Seong Hee-joo and Grand Prince Ian—whose relationship began as a contract marriage but has since turned genuine—ultimately conclude their story.
