Pre-registration for Wando County’s “Wando Half-Price Trip,” a program launched to jump-start tourism, sold out early after a surge of interest.
The “Wando Half-Price Trip” returns 50% of a visitor’s spending on lodging, food, activities, and local specialty purchases as mobile Wando Love gift certificates.
The program is open to visitors from outside the neighboring counties of Haenam and Gangjin. Support amounts are capped at 100,000 KRW (approximately $75) per person; 140,000 KRW (approximately $105) for youth ages 19–34; 200,000 KRW (approximately $150) per team (two or more people); and 500,000 KRW (approximately $375) for groups (families up to five).
Officials said pre-registration was launched to gauge travel demand and ensure smooth operations, and applications exceeded expectations.
Wando County said the first pre-registration period, which opened at 9 a.m. on April 13, closed early on April 30 after receiving 4,700 registrations.
Pre-registration data show more than 70% of applicants planned to attend the “2026 Pre–Wando International Seaweed Expo,” scheduled for May 2–7.
Officials noted that young people made up a large share of participants, since rebate rates for them can reach as high as 70%.
The second registration round for visitors planning June trips will open in late May.
A county official said, “We will run the program smoothly so visitors can receive benefits when they travel to Wando. Wando is also a popular summer getaway—thanks to spots like Sinji Myeongsasipri and the Marine Healing Center—so we hope the second application round draws just as much interest.”
