Kim Shin-rok was moved to tears.
At the 62nd Baeksang Arts Awards, presented by Gucci, on May 8 at COEX Hall D in Seoul, Kim won the theater acting prize for her performance in the stage production Prima Facie. It was her second Baeksang trophy, following a TV supporting actress award for the Netflix series Hell.
Prima Facie is a one-woman play that requires dense dialogue and relentless energy. Kim delivered a painstakingly developed character study and a commanding stage presence. Critics hailed it as one of the year’s standout performances. Her regular returns to the stage, even after expanding into film and television, showed that years of disciplined craft have paid off.
Kim said, \”I’m honored to have been part of the Korean premiere of such a meaningful work, and I’m so happy to receive this major award. Tessa, the character I played, endured the collapse of a world she believed in and survived with courage. It is that courage that makes me feel like I’m standing here today.\”
She closed by thanking her family and calling out her mother’s name, quipping, \”I’m enjoying these rewards thanks to the mom who gave birth to me,\” a line that drew warm smiles across the room.
Meanwhile, Kim Shin-rok is slated to appear in the film Gunche and in MBC’s new Friday–Saturday drama Fifty Percent.
