[TV Daily reporter Kim Jin-seok] Rapper Jerry.K has died.
His funeral service is scheduled for the morning of the 29th at Yonsei University’s Sinchon Funeral Hall in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul. He was 42. His family plans to lay him to rest at Gonggam Arboretum. On the 27th, the family announced that Jerry.K died after roughly two years battling glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. He had disclosed the diagnosis on social media in May 2024, saying he had been suddenly diagnosed, undergone surgery and was recovering. \”I hope to get even a little better,\” he wrote at the time. Tragically, he died at a young age. Born in 1984, Jerry.K studied journalism and communication at Seoul National University. He debuted in 2001 as part of a rap duo with his high school classmate Meixsense and went on to be an original member of the hip-hop crew Soul Company. After releasing his first album, he took a corporate job, but left in 2011 to return full-time to hip-hop. After Soul Company dissolved, he founded the independent label Daze Alive Music and left a lasting imprint on Korea’s hip-hop scene. His 2008 studio album ‘마왕’ (Ma-wang, literally \”Demon King\”) confronted human nature and social absurdity in blunt terms, a record that gave rise to the nickname \”Ma-wang.\” Jerry.K continued to earn critical recognition: his third studio album ‘현실, 적’ (Hyunsil, Jeok — \”Reality, Enemy\”) won Best Rap/Hip-Hop Album at the 12th Korean Music Awards, and the title track from his fourth album, ‘콜센터’ (\”Call Center,\” featuring Uhyo), was nominated for Best Rap/Hip-Hop Song at the 14th Korean Music Awards.
