[Sports Seoul | Sang-bae Lee, senior reporter] On the afternoon of the 30th, Speaker Woo Won-shik attended the National Assembly Jeonggakhoe’s lantern-lighting ceremony on the Assembly’s central lawn, held ahead of the 2,570th Buddha’s Birthday.
“As we approach the 2,570th Buddha’s Birthday, I am deeply honored to join this lantern-lighting ceremony that brightens the world,” Woo said. “I pray that the Buddha’s compassion and wisdom will shine across the globe and that their light reaches every corner of our society.”
He added, “With today’s celebratory slogan — ‘Peace in the heart, harmony in society’ — engraved deeply in our hearts, I hope peace takes root in each of us and that social harmony continues to deepen and spread.”
The event drew leaders from various Buddhist orders, including Venerable Jin-woo, chairman of the Korean Council of Buddhist Orders and head of the Jogye Order Secretariat, along with officers and members of the National Assembly Jeonggakhoe (chaired by Rep. Lee Heon-seung). Rep. Jeong Cheong-rae of the Democratic Party and Rep. Jang Dong-hyuk of the People Power Party also attended. sangbae0302@sportsseoul.com
