Daily life gets a little more relaxed and romantic thanks to a pretty rooftop garden, and this single-family home’s modern, stylish architecture is turning heads. Located in Tokyo, the compact 34-pyeong (about 1,210 sq ft) house perfectly showcases a custom-designed nest made for a young couple and their small children.

The rooftop garden—where the family grows vegetables and fruit and enjoys picnics—acts as a private oasis amid the concrete city, bringing moments of calm and romance to everyday life.

On the main level, soaring ceilings create an airy, open feeling. The living room and kitchen flow naturally into the mezzanine atelier, delivering a unique sense of spaciousness specific to this house.

The living room — neatly arranged with beanbags, a low tea table, a media console, TV and rug — reads as a relaxed family space built for both downtime and play.

The open kitchen centers on a sleek built-in island with a stainless-steel countertop. Its clean, well-organized layout is complemented by a four-seat dining set, creating a practical kitchen that’s as stylish as it is functional.

The mezzanine currently serves as an atelier, but it was designed as a flexible space: when the children grow, a partition wall can be added to turn it into a separate bedroom, giving the home even more versatility.
