[Anchor] A spring flower festival is in full swing on Gunpo’s azalea hill, which has been completely drenched in pink. Visitors are wandering the blossom-lined paths, breathing in the fresh spring air. Our correspondent is on the scene: Reporter Kang Su-ji. [Reporter] Behind me, can you spot the pink paradise the azaleas have created? I’m standing on Azalea Hill in Gunpo, Gyeonggi Province. With bright, sunny weather on this holiday, people are flocking here to enjoy the peak blooms and make spring memories. What used to be a bleak hillside marked by a transmission tower was transformed when Gunpo city employees and local residents planted azalea saplings, creating this lush hill. The Gunpo Azalea Festival has grown into the city’s signature spring event and is celebrating its 12th year. More than 220,000 azalea bushes wash the hill in pink, filling the air with the scent and spirit of spring. The flowers form clusters along the slopes rather than on flat ground, so no matter where you snap a photo, you’ll have a stunning floral backdrop. There’s also a gently sloping boardwalk, making it easy for anyone to stroll and admire the blooms. The festival lineup includes live music stages, a community singing contest, and a traditional farmers’ band parade. Today’s attractions include the Azalea Market, a photography contest, and an art exhibition showcasing works by Gunpo residents. New this year are nighttime light displays that give the festival a magical, after-dark vibe. Bring your family, partner, or friends and come soak up this spring spectacle.
