
The Incheon chapter of the Democratic Party of Korea has finalized its slate of candidates for all 11 municipal and county chief posts in Incheon for the June 3 local elections.
Yoo Dong-soo, chair of the party’s Incheon election committee, announced the primary results for Namdong and Geomdan districts on April 26 at around 9 p.m. via the YouTube channel MinjuIncheon TV.
Former Incheon city councilor Lee Byung-rae was selected as the party’s mayoral candidate for Namdong, while Kim Jin-kyu, a special adviser to the party leader, won the Geomdan nomination. With those picks, the party has completed its roster of candidates for the 11 district and county chief posts across Incheon.
Earlier, through the first and second primary rounds, the party confirmed Son Hwa-jung, a former Blue House administrator, as the party’s candidate for Yeongjong district mayor; Namgung Hyung, who served as a campaign team leader for Lee Jae-myung’s presidential bid, as the Jemulpo candidate; and former Michuhol Mayor Kim Jeong-sik as the Michuhol candidate.
The party also named Jeong Ji-yeol, former chair of the Yeonsu district council, as its Yeonsu candidate; incumbent Bupyeong Mayor Cha Joon-taek as its Bupyeong candidate; former Gyeyang Mayor Park Hyung-woo as its Gyeyang candidate; and Koo Jae-yong, former chairman of the Seo District Facilities Management Corporation, as its Seo candidate.
Han Yeon-hee, head of the Ganghwa Future Development Movement Headquarters, was chosen as the party’s candidate for Ganghwa county, and former Ongjin County Mayor Jang Jeong-min secured the Ongjin nomination.
The primaries used a public-participation format that combined 50% registered party-member voting and 50% public opinion polling to determine the winners.
