Will Samsung’s Shareholder Protest Clash with Union Strike? Key Insights for Investors

A shareholders’ group has announced a counter-rally as the Samsung Electronics union prepares a general-strike rally in front of Chairman Lee Jae-yong’s residence next month.
Yonhap reported on April 26 that the Korea Shareholders’ Movement Headquarters, a group that has long opposed Samsung’s union activity, notified police it will hold a rally outside Lee’s residence in Hannam-dong, Yongsan District, Seoul, on the 21st of next month from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
The shareholders’ gathering is widely seen as a direct response to the cross-company Samsung union’s planned general strike. The union plans to hold its own rally at 1:00 p.m. that day in front of the chairman’s residence to announce the strike.
Authorities said the shareholders’ rally was registered for about 30 participants.
