
Seafood industry groups in Yeosu have been purchasing tickets for the 2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo in quick succession, helping to build momentum for the event across the region.
On the 24th, Yeosu city said these purchases reflect continued backing from the fisheries sector for a successful expo.
According to the city, the Jeonnam Yeosu Fishing Boat Association bought 400 tickets on the 13th, and the Yeosu Coastal Integrated Fishers’ Association purchased 220 on the 21st. City officials said these actions represent voluntary support from the local seafood industry. Combined ticket purchases by Yeosu’s regional and sectoral cooperatives and fisheries organizations, including the National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives, amounted to 239,000,000 KRW (approximately $179,250).
Alongside the ticket purchases, stakeholders discussed operational issues expected during the expo. On the 2nd, Yeosu officials met with representatives of the Jeonnam Yeosu Fishing Boat Association to address parking challenges and to coordinate safety guidance in anticipation of increased numbers of anglers.
Participants agreed to strengthen the public-private cooperation framework. The association pledged to help ensure visitor safety and a pleasant marine environment by voluntarily following safety rules and maintaining orderly operations.
Yeosu officials said the seafood organizations’ ticket purchases are having a positive effect on the local community.
A Yeosu official thanked the seafood groups for their support of a successful expo and said the city will continue working with local stakeholders to finalize preparations.
